Re: Testing for the next Wings~of~War campaign
Having tried the server yesterday I think the plane sets seems good enough, however the distance between the carriers seems too big. Maybe it should be better to shorten the distance and make them move more between missions if that is possible. Perhaps the resupply of carriers could go up too to compensate for possible losses due to shorter distance??
Anyway, like the idea and the map looking forward to fly it.

Probably, don't need a chute to crash into a ship.RCAF_FB_Vandoos wrote:RCAF_FB_Under wrote:If I'm not mistaken the Japanese were notorious for killing American soldiers in their Chutes................Oh crap here we go LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Also need the TBF-1Cs this was the first time they were used in battle only 1 of the 6 survived.
Its a shame there are no TBD Devastators in the list. This was a big battle for them...even if they went 0-4 strikes. If it weren't for the failed attack of Torpedo 8 and 6. Bomber 3, and 8 wouldn't have been been successful.
I say skip the icon...it gives more incentive to stay together
I'm having the same issues with the PBN-1's that I am having with the B-17's and the B-25's. If I put them in the game they are available on each carrier. It would be cool to have them at a sea base, though. Regarding the TBF-1C's, they are in the campaign. I flew one last night from Midway to the Japanese fleet, hit a flat top with a torpedo and made it home. Once I returned to Midway I had to put her down in the water, though. My elevator had been rendered unusable by AAA.

The carriers move throughout the campaign, so there may seem to be a great distance between them at first, but then they get closer and closer. In addition, I can't really determine what is close enough. For the North Africa 1943 campaign I thought that the map was large enough, but the more pilots we had in the server the closer we seemed. In this campaign there will only be a single objective. That will be to destroy the other team's ships. The ships will remain sunk, so we will be working on sinking them all throughout the campaign. I seriously doubt that this one is going to end prematurely since it is rather difficult to sink them.

I never really gave it much thought, but there is a setting in the game that will not allow you to bail from an aircraft. I suppose we could discuss implementing this option, but I'm not really fond of the idea.

Re: Testing for the next Wings~of~War campaign
Bigcat and I just flew the map with him launching from the Jap carriers in a A6M and me from Midway in a SBD. We both flew directly towards each other. At 23 minutes we intercepted and then continued on our courses. He reached Midway at approximately 35 minutes, took out a AAA site and was then killed by other AAA. I reached the Japanese carrier fleet at 53 minutes (average 160 mph) did my drop and was then annihilated by the AAA.
Seems a very long way to go, especially just to get killed and then have to endure the death kick. I think there is a big risk of people losing interest with these flight times. If we could arrange the targets so that they are about 20 minutes apart that would make the campaign more 'playable'. Otherwise disabling the death kick may be another option for this campaign.
As for the issue of 'no bail-outs' I think we had that setting in the Manchuria campaign although I might be wrong here. Historically the Japanese didn't start using parachutes until November of 1942 (Guadalcanal) IIRC. I dont know if there is a way to limit parachute usage to just one side or if that would even be fair but historically it would be more correct.

Re: Testing for the next Wings~of~War campaign
S!~ Badbet,
Let's look at eliminating the death kick. There's a mechanism in place that denies the full score if you don't make it home, so I'm not too concerned that participants will bail just to launch again. I really don't want to start the ships closer together as they move during the campaign and could end up right on top of each other. Having pilots meet somewhere in the middle at about 20 minutes is pretty good. Keep in mind that there were only two of you in the server at the time. Once we field a full compliment of pilots we will find engagements in far less time.
As for limiting one side to being able to bail, I don't really want to do that. I do like to maintain some historical accuracy, but not at the cost of balanced play. That's the reason I have chosen Midway over Coral Sea. At Midway the Allies had the TBF, and this balances things since the Japanese have the B5N.
Last night while I was testing I flew from the Allied fleet directly to the Japanese fleet. It took a while, but it didn't seem like it took too long. I was able to sneak up on an unsuspecting Colslaw and flamed him in one short burst at close range. He launched again and I engaged once more. Having the altitude advantage I dispatched him again, but I was damaged by the AAA. I then flew to Midway Island and landed. The whole thing took less than 2 hours, so it seemed that the ships were far enough to be challenging, but not so far away that the sortie would take longer than the 2 hours between map changes.

Re: Testing for the next Wings~of~War campaign
About the only change I would like is to have friendly icons back on again ..
- flying off the map is fine as the person doing so still has to reeneter to do any damage and/or land points.
-Bailing out is fine as you don't get full points and may even be killed while doing so.
After reading part of the logs it is clear that what many of us see as a person quitting the server to prevent a death, is actually the server ejecting the person. In the end, we all have lost points for some reason or other - it was a standing joke on our side in the last two campaigns that I would not get my points even when I landed the kill safely. As annoying as it is, it is just the electronic version of no confirmation.
I kept getting asked how I got back in the server so fast. In all of the campaigns to date I either get in at 12 minutes or 22 minutes, never at 15.

I would not be in favor in changing the distance for the initial engagement it adds to the tension. Considering the distance is already about half the original distance the ships were nearly 200 miles apart on at the time of the first engagement. By the last one the distance had closed by half

I want you to think about this.... You're in the server by yourself. You hop into your plane loaded with bombs and take off. You trim your plane and level out and get on course. Get a cup of coffee...........get another cup..........get another cup.........(40 min later) hey there they are, start your dive, here comes the AAA........"RCAF_FB_Under was killed in cockpit by ship gunner"......OMG, WTF, SOB......etc. 40 minutes for what.

Doesn't sound like a good time.
