New Monitor! (but have a small issue)

After 12 years with a 21" Sony CRT, I just bought a new flat screen, this one: http://www.viewsonic.com/products/va2431wm.htm

The highest resolution choice within the game is 1600 x 1200 so I have set the in-game resolution in the conf.ini file to match the screen resolution (1920 x 1080) and I get the game image centered in the monitor with 2 black vertical bars on the left and right. How do I get the game to see the wider monitor to give me a widescreen view?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

In your game folder there is a file called "conf" that is your configuration file for the game. On lines 6 & 7 set the window size to match your monitor, and do not change it in the game.
