WWI Map Skins

Unread post by Medar »

Thanks to Colslaw and RAF Benge - we have a good number of WWI Skins for the planesets we are stuck with trying to model a WWI map with...

http://www.gbice.com/IL-2/WWI_Skins.zip - just unzip this into your SKINS directory under Paintschemes...it will drop all the skins into place. If it asks you to overwrite...just say yes...that means you already had one or more of these.

I will be swapping the AI planes to a number of these skins...just have not had time to do so yet.

There is one more aircraft we can add ... the DH Tiger Moth. . and it is kinda OT as it was used in all the WWI air movies prior to CGI

Does the Tiger Moth Work or do you need to down load the file for it?

you probably have to do the same with it that you do with the Swordfish ... select another aircraft. . choose RAF as markings. . APPLY. and then go back and choose the Swordfish and it appears

I tried skinning the Hs-123, or even creating a template for skinning it, and it is currently not possible. The skin is fully based off the CR-42 skin, yet the airframe is wrapping the .bmp improperly in places, rendering the left side of the aircraft to ALSO wrap the tail, and using the fuselage to also wrap the engine cowling. There is also about a 6 pixel area ON the engine cowling that represents the propeller, LOL - took me a while to find that one. And last - the underside of the wheel struts are also reflected on the engine cowling...

So the Hs-123 is not impossible to skin, we just cannot duplicate other WWI aircraft skins accurately. We can "reference" them at best.

Well since this wont be ready before the update/fix for 1.8 comes out we can include both the Tiger Moth and Swordfish...as they are both fixed in the update

That means we have the following planes..
Skinned so far I-153s, U2-vs,TB-3M, Gladiators, P-11c, CR-42

Planes needing WW 1 skins
Avia, HS-123, I-15 (It could use the I-153 skins they work on it), Tiger Moth, Swordfish.

Is this the complete list of planes we are planning to use for this?
