6DOF TrackIR Mod

Unread post by [OAC]Crow »

I was wondering why we are using the 6DOF_TrackIR_2_0_ShR mod instead of one of the better increase Java memory executables?

If you have not tried them, they are actually very nice and really reduce all of the little stutters that occur when the game runs out of Java memory and starts pagefile swapping. Even the 256 or 512MB files improve the performance by an impressive amount. The only requirement is that you don't use an executable that is more than about 25% of your total RAM or IL-2 may not have enough room left in the remaining RAM to run smoothly.

One of my squadmates is having pretty severe stutters currently with the 2.0 ShR, but does not have that problem on two other servers we frequent which use the 512MB executable.

Would it be possible to look into changing that mod for the next campaign? The enhanced executables function precisely like the current mod, but just change a couple lines in the .exe to allow for more java memory. I believe they are not CRT=2 compatible for that reason.

S!~ Sir,

Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into this. The only problem that I would have is if it really isn't CRT=2 compliant. I want to be sure that everyone is seeing the same things in game. I'd hate to trade the stutter for invisible aircraft, for example. I'll take some time to test to find out whether the larger executables are CRT=2 complaint before we begin the next campaign. In fact, I should start a thread just for suggestions. I would consider each and every one of them.

Blood,

Have you tried disabling the roll effect in 6DOF, I found that made it less motiony. . you can also change the setting to slow it down and/or smooth it out.

Right now I am using a TrackIR 4 camera with the software from TrackIR 5, and the options in the latter are far superior to those in 4

When I say they aren't CRT=2 compliant I mean you can't use one executable in lieu of another one. CRT checks the il2fb.exe file line by line (as far as I know), so any difference will cause you to be kicked (and each executable is different by a few characters), thus the issue. If the server is running a particular TrackIR executable (like Exe_512MB_6DOFTiR) then everyone must use that as well.

Tiger, we're currently running the "Exe_512MB_6DOFTiR" version in Ghost Skies, so you should be familiar with its performance there. It seems to be running well for everyone in that campaign, including yourself I would imagine.

S!~ Crow,

I understand. But, is the Ghost Skies server running CRT=2?

S!~ Crow,

From the information posted here it would seem as though you can use any of the executables. I suppose I should test it, but I never use them. Perhaps it will solve my stutter problem.
