Buyer-Beware: Direct2drive

Unread post by Murph »

Hey All,

Just a buyer-be-aware notice in regards to direct2drive and for any one thinking of ever purchasing a game from this company.

After running all the requested tests and supplying all the requested data to direct2drive's service/support, they could find nothing wrong with my system and no reason for my IL-2 1946 purchase refusing to download, install and run in Win7 Pro 64 bit on my system.

And though I have asked, they will not address or respond to my request that they check the stability of their game download.

As a result and as already related elsewhere, I requested either a CD of the game download, which direct2drive will not even consider doing, or a refund of my purchase which direct2drive will not do stating that it is out of their hands and nothing that they can do since the game that I cannot download, install or play has already been activated through them by way of my purchasing the game from them.

To which I have stated is not acceptable and that in lieu of a CD or a refund, then I expect to be paid for the amount of my time and effort wasted.

All they are offering of course is an insincere apology for any inconvenience I may have encountered and a credit. As their new position is that this is all my fault for purchasing the game. With their justification being that the listed 'Minimum Requirements' for the game shows the Supported OS's as being Windows® 98/ME/XP/2000 (only).

And since neither WinXp, Vista or Win7 is listed as a supported OS that I'm simply SOL, that they are keeping my payment and I have no recourse other than a credit with which I can then take the risk of purchasing another game from these morons.

I just found numerous copies,Brand new still in the shrink wrap at my local half priced books. $9.95 each. Of course I bought one for myself. If anyone still needs one, let me know. You can send me the money or deposit in my acct and I will go get you one and you pay the shiping and I will be more than happy to send it to you.

This game is one royal PAIN IN THE A** to install either from the CD,Steam or Ubisoft DLs unless you follow the instructions exactly IF you can find them and even then you'll need help from somebody in the know like Decker. The Steam DL seems to be the trickiest. Once its up and running its worth it.

Emil and Murph, when you get the game stable, and I cannot stress this enough, make an archive of it with no mods activated so that if (when) you need to reload it you only have to unpack it and add the newest mods if any.

Speaking of mods, when you install or update it, you must, and again I cannot stress this enough, make sure all of the mods are deactivated with the JSGME switcher.

Hope to see you both in the air very soon my friends!

S! Emil,

Well once I gave up on Win 7 Pro 64 bit and IL-2, reinstalled WinXP and then fixed Microsoft's intrusive, corruptive and endlessly annoying activation and re-activation anti-piracy nonsense (being a known conflcit for which Microsoft will only supply you with the means to fix for the time being by yourself) the game downloaded and installed as advertised, lol.

And it pays to complain for while direct2drive still says they cannot refund my purchase, they have now doubled my credit to twice the purchase price, lol.

Now you just need to sell that double credit for 1 1/2 times your purchase price. . you end up with more than you spent, someone else gets two games for less than advertised and D2D gets screwed if ever so minutely
