Please help the dummy.

No matter what I do I cannot install IL-2 1946 from the IL-2 1946 408 zip download from direct2drive without receiving a CRC Error with either the datacab 2 file, the datacab 3 file, certain sfs map files and other various cataustrophic errors along the way during various portions of the installation, and that's if the setup.exe itself will actually run. With the farthest I've managed to get so far in the installation process being the placement of the IL-2 shrtcut on my desktop and the creation of the Ubsifot/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 folder with various files placed in my Program Files (x86) folder.

I've turned off all fire walls and anti-virus, I've tried downloading in both IE8 and Firefox, using both the direct2drive Download Manager and Comrade as well as Mozilla and Internet Download Manager, saving as and every where under the sun, unzipping and installing the download using WinRar, WinZip, 7 zip and Windows Compressed, doing so as an adminstrator, in all compatability modes and in every variation thereof of the above.

I've also tried downloading and installing the game in both WinXP and Win7 (I have a dual OS boot setup), restarting, cleaning my hard drives, wiping files and cleaning the registry between each attempt to download and install the game, as well as going through the endless circle jerk of trying to find help and answers online.

And I do not have this problem with any other downloaded games or those installed from CD.

Any suggestions?

i own the D2D verson...and there is a UBI fix file for DLL's but i am not sure if it matters with all the updates. make sure RUN AS ADMIN the install file.and possibly redownload to make sure the file is not corupt and see how that goes. if you still need/ want i can set up my torrent and send you a known good but my internet connection sucks at this new location...at least my upload sucks.

Thx Olde and my bad if I forgot to mention that I've already tried redownloading the game zip itself from diect2drive about 30 times already using all the methods listed above try and get one that is non-corrupted, lol.

Hopefully someone will have an answer. I'm stumped. BigO had some kind
of hash checking program that can tell if the download is really corrupt. I don't know if it would work with every download or what. We'll have to wait to see if he posts or someone else might have an answer.

Send me your mailing address and I'll send you the 1946 DVD and you can send it back once you are sure you have the game working. . you will have to get all the subsequent patches, but that will be enough to get you going. .. or if someone has already burnt an up to date DVD with all the patches and stuff I will ask them to step up and send that to save the hassle of patches

I have burnt copies of the IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 4.07m, Patches 4.08m, 4.09m and Ultra Pack 2.01 with patch 4.10m that you can addon.

Thx Gents and glad it's not just me then who is stumped, lol.

Appreciate the kind offers and will follow up on them after I first hear from direct2drive as to both their 'suggestions' and their response as to my asking that they check to see if the download itself is not simply corupted on their end.

Which while most likely a complete waste of time, is a point and a bone of contention of mine in titling at wind mills with the endless no-customer service, file a ticket suuport, zero responsibility and no accountability whatsoever on the part of the folks who create and whom we purchase our software/hardware. And whose sole solution to everything is in our having to try to find and fix their lemon and all their screwups for them by ourselves

Well direct2drive has no clue either other than to suggest I run the memtest, which I already did prior to to this and have again with the same results of things being okey-dokey. So I have requested they either send me a CD with the game files or refund my money.

And again I appreciate and have not forgot your offers to get the game by other means, but first I want to try and get my pound of flesh

Don't hesitate to take advantage of the offers. None of us mind one bit, and I have already sent a few disks myself. I have always used the DVD version and have no experience with the D2D version. The only thing I know about the D2D version is that you need the ubi fix so that the directory structure matches up (much like the RB3D CD version vs. the Super Patch version).

We'll get you taken care of.

Frankly I burned a disk of IL2 FB (not 46) you can be sure if you ever need to reinstall or the one you burned is sent to another neither will work.
Be careful about burning that CD you might lose it all! it was my experience.
