In addition you'll need a video card, hard drive (or 2) and DVD drive. Sound card could be a nice addition (free up the cpu for more computational power). Unless you already have Windows 7/Vista, you'll need a new operating system too.
From what I've read on various boards, be careful when selecting a video card. You want to make sure your power supply will have enough juice for the better vid cards. I've read some suggestions that a 700w power supply is necessary in some instances.

Like Redhornet said, power supply must meet your requirements.... I just finished building my first comp and I had to return my 500w power supply because it was just barely enough. And what I have been told is to prepare your comp for upgrades... If you want to add another video card, your power supply might not be able to run both of them. That is my two cents

... Once you built your own computer you will never buy a manufactured one again! And for an operating system, if you have a student email, you can get a huuuge discount. I picked up Windows 7 professional 64 bit for $65.
