Unreal Russian Jet

The red smoke coming from the wingtips is only there to demonstrate to spectators on the ground the direction the plane is actually moving through the air. Normally the smoke wouldn't be there. When the smoke is streaming behind, the airplane is moving fast forward etc. When the airplane is engulfed in smoke, it means the airplane is almost stopped in mid-air. The maneuverability of this plane is incredible. This plane would be nearly impossible to defeat in a dogfight.

It may be necessary to invite Russia to join NATO. Russia may now have the #1 fighter plane in the world, the SU-30 Vectored Thrust with Canards. As you watch this airplane, look at the canards moving along side of, and just below the canopy rail. The "canards" are the small wings forward of the main wings. The smoke and contrails provide a sense of the actual flight path, sometimes in reverse direction. This video is of an in-flight demonstration flown by the Russian's SU-30MK fighter aircraft. The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping forward motion in seconds. (full stall). Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail first without causing a compressor stall. It can also recover from a flat spin in less than a minute. These maneuver capabilities don't exist in any other aircraft in the world today. Take a look at the video with the sound up. This aircraft is of concern to U.S and NATO planners. We don't know which nations will soon be flying the SU-30MK, hopefully China isn't one of them.

Friends worked with advanced aircraft flight control systems and concepts for many years as an extension of stability control and means of control. Canards and vectored thrust were among many concepts examined to extend our fighter aircraft performance. Neither our current or next generation aircraft now poised for funding & production can in any way match the performance of this Russian aircraft. Somehow the bankrupt Russian aircraft industry has out produced our complex politically tainted aerospace industry with this technology marvel. Scratch any ideas of close in air-to-air combat with this aircraft in the future.

12 June 1999: Paris Air Show, Le Bourget, France, a Russian Su-30MK crashed — both pilots ejected safely and no one was hurt on the ground. (Video)
30 April 2009: an Indian Air Force Su-30MKI crashed near Jaisalmer. A pilot died.[34]
30 November 2009: an Indian Air Force Su-30MKI crashed near Jaisalmer. The pilots survived.[35]
The Chinese have lost 5 Flankers, of which 4 are Su-30s. [36]

"This plane would be nearly impossible to defeat in a dogfight."

Planes do not win dog fights, pilots do. At least until they get rid of the pilot all together.

I was thinking along the same lines after S.L.N made his post. We won't take the time to develop the technology when we're looking forward toward unmanned aircraft, and it will be a numbers game. We'll be able to field far more unmanned aircraft than they will be able to field manned aircraft, and we all know too well what the odds are of coming out on top when we're facing multiple enemies.

It would be much less of a problem if we would quit selling/giving away our top fighters, but then we would have nothing to fear, and no reason to spend untold $billions developing the 'next generation' to combat 'developing' threats.

Giving the Raptor to the Israelis is a prime example, considering they have sold our military secrets to the Chinese in the past. Sad, but true.

despite its amazing air show capabilities, its stall characteristics are all but useless, to pull any of those maneuvers, would be suicide think of the loss of energy.

SU-30
Maximum speed: Mach 2.0 (2,120 km/h, 1,320 mph)
Range: 3,000 km (1,620 nmi) at altitude
Service ceiling: 17,300 m (56,800 ft)
Rate of climb: 230 m/s (45,275 ft/min)
Wing loading: 401 kg/m² (82.3 lb/ft²)
Thrust/weight: 1.0

F-22
Maximum speed:
At altitude: Mach 2.25 (1,500 mph, 2,410 km/h)[100]
Supercruise: Mach 1.82 (1,220 mph, 1,963 km/h)[100]
Range: >1,600 nmi (1,840 mi, 2,960 km) with 2 external fuel tanks
Combat radius: 410 nmi[204] (471 mi, 759 km)
Ferry range: 2,000 mi (1,738 nmi, 3,219 km)
Service ceiling: 65,000 ft (19,812 m)
Wing loading: 77 lb/ft² (375 kg/m²)
Thrust/weight: 1.08 (1.26 with loaded weight & 50% fuel)
Maximum design g-load: -3.0/+9.0 g

it also lacks stealth ;)

In my opinion, its not a threat to the raptor compared plane to plane, but you have to keep in mind that it is superior to the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Falcon, which are still the back bone of our Air Force

And we scraped the F-22.
