Anyone know anything about "electronics" ?

This is a question about power supply. My kid has a pedal for his bass and the wires on the power supply broke and touched each other. I'm guessing that burned up the power supply, I fixed the wired and soldered them on the transformer but it smells like burning when I plug it in.

So, I have this huge box of power supplies from various electronic I've had over the years. I found thats almost an exact matchbut not perfect.

The one that burned up is AC/AC adaptor Class 2 transformer
Input: 120V AC 60Hz 0.3A
Output: 12V AC 1000mA

The one I have and think I can use is

AC/AC adaptor Class 2 transformer
Input: 120V AC 60Hz 0.3A
Output: 12V AC 2000mA

So puts out 1 more amp than the other, do think this could be a problem?

S!~ Trouble,

What does the transformer plug in to? Is it the bass guitar or the amplifier? And, if so, what is the power rating on the guitar or amplifier? If it will accept 2 amperes it won't be a problem. But, if it will only accept 1 ampere you'll burn out the electronics on the guitar (pick ups, etc.) or the amplifier. Please keep in mind that I know nothing about instruments, but I do know a little about electronics. The important thing is that you don't overload the circuit, regardless of what the transformer plugs in to (guitar, amp, etc.).

Thanks Tiger, Colslaw and my dad say that it'll work so I'm going to try it.

Thing is that the pedal itself could already be burnt by the old PS so i got nothing to lose.

1 ampere of current will KILL you, so I would suggest that you replace the Transformer with the design specifications.
Output: 12V AC, 1000mA (1A)

If the transformer is fried there is a high probability that any resisters, capacitors, power transistors in a power curcuit may also be damaged.

Tiger is correct you could burn up your amp/guitar or yourself suppling the additional 1 ampere of current.

Voltage does not kill, Amperage KILLS (1 A).
