I finally got UP1.8 to work after four installation attempts over four days .. so of course no one is in the server now. ....

Update. .. still not there yet.

For some reason when I use my original CRT=2 timeout error version of UP1.8 I get a steady 60fps, when I use the new no timeout version my fps is from around 12-40. The only difference is the higher one is on my C drive while the other is on my D drive - and has all the correct files. I am running at excellent settings in both versions and tried it on the same maps with the same aircraft in boith cases.

I am also unable to delete or rename the folders for the older versions. . something is amiss here

Colslaw - what is the full directory path you installed to?

C:\Users\RNP\Ubi Soft\1946 - UP18 crt2 for the 60fps one which gets dropped from WoW
D:\IL2\1946 - UP1.8 is the proper one which gets 12-40fps

There we go...

You will not want to install anything to the USERS directory - or the PROGRAM FILES or PROGRAM FILES (x86) directories that are games for older PCs. Vista will lock certain aspects of these directories down and you will not be able to edit them. So...it's best to avoid them completely.

I created a directory called "GAMES" right off the C: drive...much like you did on the D Drive.

C:\Games\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\

I can edit anything about this one.

Except it is the USERS directory copy which gets the great fps. . and the CRT=2 error.

After a restart I am now able to edit/delete the folders for my various install attempts. So right now I have

C: basic game modded to 4.08m which I am using as the start point
C: CRT=2 error copy of UP1.8

D: AAA 1.1 408/409b which is my open server copy (need to see what fps is there now as this used to be on my C drive)
D: UP1.8 with low fps

I wonder if moving the low fps game to C: will help.. . may as well give that a try and copy it to the game directory

That's perfect. I too get 60 FPS in Single Player and between 40 and 60 FPS on WoW with the current set up. The reason it isn't a steady 60 FPS in WoW is that there are quite a number of objects on the Pearl Harbor map, both stationary and moving.
