Allied victory at Midway, entire Jap fleet sunk

Unread post by Warren »

Congradulations to the Allied Forces in the defense of Midway Island.

Sinking the carriers forced the IJN down to Davy Jones.

Being the first sea battle campaign, we really weren't sure how this particular campaign would work out once run live. It was pretty much the most "robust" sea campaign available and it turned out to be a very quick and fast paced battle. The ground war battles can easily last a week's time if not months but I guess that makes sense, sea battles were determined in hours almost. We had hoped that the IL2 campaign would last at least 3 to 4 days, our concern it would be over in less than a day much like real sea battles. hehehe Guess our concerns were right.

The Coral Sea and then Santa Cruz Campaigns were put up simply as a matinee feature since so many turned out to play. These Sea Campaigns will run for the rest of the week. Stats and scores are still running, so if you guys are up for a bloody nose sea battle, get in there.

We have pulled scores from the Midway mission stats but the overall pilot stats for the Midway campaign are rolled over to the Coral Sea battle stats.

Team, squadron and pilot scores from the Midway 1942 campaign will be posted.

We are/have been working on a few things and come up with a solution to allow these IL2 sea battle campaigns last up to a week.
Again, we apologize for this being over so quickly. Realizing over 90 people had signed up, the poor Japs didn't have a chance to begin with..... the great turn out in participation, server set up and the manic bombers you guys have........................ only made it worse. So its the Allied's fault this is over so quickly.

We would like to call a mulligan and completely re-start the Midway 1942 campaign again on 14 September 2009 at 00:01 hours with an improved Midway 1942 Camapaing. Registration would still be good, we'll just roll it back a week and start it al over again.

Then, we can switch sides and go again on 28 September 2009. Again gentlemen, we apologize. 90 pilots on a sea battle.............. never done that before. :-p

Additional information will come out "soon." Sorry for the late post, we didnt want to post on something until we had an idea of what we could do about it.

Doh! I guess the WW didn't really grasp the whole idea behind the battle format, and showed up a day late and a dollar short. We were gearing up to hit the server this evening to help the blue effort, but...

No SLN, you wont have to fill out another registration form. The registrations will still be good...... ;)

S!~ Sir,

That's not a problem. We're going to run the campaign beginning this Monday, 14 September 2009. It wasn't supposed to conclude so quickly, and I believe that I have found the problem. There is a practice server running now with no death kick and no password, so feel free to give it a try.

Hope my references to fleet sizes helped with the revamp.

Initial Jap carrier fleet in this campaign was missing its two battleships and a bunch more support ships, as the allied fleed was missing a bunch of support ships as well. Hopefully the increase in ships and/or AAA activity at either fleet won't jack with anyone's FPS too much, but I'm flying on a Dell with the lowest possible resolution, yet on fiber-optic connection so I'm stable.

Also missing were the B-26's and the PBY's, and there's no mention of scout/attack floatplanes either.. which could be another interesting facet to the game, and would allow for landing on the water should you be limited to ditching from an air-start..

And I'm also debating with myself whether it's better to be objectives-based, or points-based for IL2 campaigns(cause this is my first one).

*shrug* Don't know what the game is capable of yet, but I'm starting to learn.

The Pby were listsed a couple of times in the drop down meneu but when selected they blew up on the carrier deck , either an air start or seaplane base is required next to the allied convoy to fix this.

S!~ Jericho,

Thank you. I did notice that you mentioned it in the server chat and I did receive your message. The PBN-1 is now available at the Midway seaplane base, but for some reason the DCG is making every aircraft available from the carrier decks. While you may be able to get a B-25 off the deck, you can't launch a PBN-1 or B-17 from a carrier.

Ah, I was about to post asking why the stats were reset, but now I know :). I think a couple more AKA were registering and were going to check it out tonight, so I'll link to this thread so guys know you're restarting it on the 14th (assuming we'll stay on the same side we were on this week, as you're repeating it again later in the month).

Thanks for having us, it was a lot of fun, and hopefully we'll be around when you restart it next week.
