George needs more help!!

Can someone tell me the exact measurement that il2 uses for their maps, say 1 square= 1K, or whatever it is, and another dumb one for ya, what is the exact measurment that is being depicted on the tags of fighters in the game, like when it say 12.3 and so on, is that one in meters??? Can someone help with this, it really helps with dead reckoning and figuring out how far to fly and for how long until you change course and such..

Hey curious George!

1 square = 10km. If you download Bombsight Table 2 you can punch in you IAS (indicated air speed) Altitude, and distance to see how long it will take to get to point A-B. The higher you are the faster you TAS (true air speed) gets even if your IAS stays relatively the same.

As for icons, someone can correct me if Im wrong, but 0.1 = 100m & 1.0 = 1km so if someone is 5.0 (km) away they are half a square away on the map.

On average, its about 1:30 for every square/10km.

Thanks guys, that really did help me out tremendously, I have that program Smokin, I just like to keep sharp on Land nav, so I take a map of where I am flyin, use a compass, try and figure wind dir/speed, and flight time between each dir point before course corrections. It was workinin with what I thought the grid square were, 10 K, now with your guys info, I can never be lost over the pacific again!!

Yes, your right 0.1km=100m, 1.0km=1,000m and 0.05km=50m.

Your speed bar can however change to such as KIAS= Knot Indicated Air Speed, and of course to MPH. When using either KIAS or MPH, your altitude will display in Feet.

Am I getting that right, your saying you can change it to read feet instead of meters on the speed bar? If so, teach me mighty one.....

You just need to assign a key (in the IL2 Controls box) for Toggle Speed Bar.

It is in the MISC controls section between Next Ratings Page and Toggle Icon Types

You then just cycle through the different units of measure available
