New feature added to virtualaces.net

Unread post by Tiger »

S!~ All,

For some time I have wanted to add a jukebox to the site with World War II era songs, and now we have one. Go to the main page and look in the main menu. You will see a link entitled iPod. Click it and the jukebox will begin to play all of the classic tunes from the early forties. It will shuffle the songs and you can use the forward or back buttons. You can even use the pause function. The really nice thing is that it comes up in it's own small browser so you can surf the site and listen to the tunes.

Very sweet Tiger.
Its great to listen to these while you are tooling around on a map.
I do know of a necessary addition though.
My dad started his war in North Africa. I can remember him saying how much they loved 'Lili Marlene", both the German and English versions. I have a slight remembrance of a story about a group of German POWs singing it as they marched by into captivity.

An English version:
http://ingeb.org/refer/AnneShelton1944.MP3

A German version:
http://ingeb.org/refer/marlened.MP3

Some other possible additions:
"He wears a pair of silver wings" Dinah Shore
"When that man is dead and gone" Mildred Bailey
"(There'll be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover" Kate Smith
"The Road to Victory" Bing Crosby
"You can't say No To A Soldier" Joan Merrill
"GI Jive" Johnny Mercer

Man the Big Band music was so simple and great.

(edit) My 15 year old daughter came in while I was listening to some of the above listed songs. She asked if she could burn some of the songs to her MP3 player so she could share them with her orchestra instructor.
She plays cello in a local orchestra and thought that some of these tunes would sound a lot better than some of the modern music they play from time to time. (How Cool is that?)

S!~ Alpha,

Everything old is new again, as they say. We can certainly add new songs to our iPod. I'll add the ones that you linked, and if you can find the others you mentioned I'll add them, too.

EDIT: Adding the following;

"He wears a pair of silver wings" Dinah Shore
"(There'll be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover" Vera Lynn
"You can't say No To A Soldier" Joan Merrill

Here's a page I found with a bunch of WWII Era tunes;

http://www.stelzriede.com/ms/html/sub/mshws.htm#ww2

Look 'em over and let me know what you would like to add. Also, if you find a similar page let me know. The sky is the limit.
