RoF: some quick thoughts
After 1 1/2 weeks of playing RoF I have a few thoughts on the game. I love the graphics, but overall the aircraft seem easier to fly than those in RB3D/CW or IL2 and I am shocked at how wrong some of the aircraft are. . the DR.I is fast?????? SPADs fall apart at will?
The main server is most inappropriately called Newbie, and it is populated by anything but those new to the game. It seems to have everything that is bad about SOV, although there are some who play with honour there. The full-real servers I have tried seem more interesting as long as you have someone to fly with.
I juist picked up 19 new aircraft, so I look forward to getting together with some of you to try them out

Re: RoF: some quick thoughts
I've played the past couple of nights and I'm on my way there to play again tonight. I'm having some fun. I hung out with Fogel, Harry, Zardo, the J9 gang and Flybert last night. I started programing my controls last night so it got a little easier. Still need to adjust the curves I guess.

Re: RoF: some quick thoughts
Here are a couple of thoughts I have had....
I found the SPAD doggy at best...a Pfalz D 12 cannot run down a SPAD XIIIa on its best day.
THe Brisfit III..Is shall we say a bit suped up...I was out turning Alb DVas and out flew a couple of Dr 1s near ground level in the thing!
Love the Sopwith Pup..she is a sweet heart...however...they must ve borrowed the FM for her from Red Baron 3D because I had that baby looping, and looping against 3 Alb DIIIas...never once did the engine sputter out at the top of the loop. It was up and over, up and over up and over...repeatedly.

Yeah Benge its far from perfect I would say but its the best WWI sim out there. And the cool thing is they are always trying to make it better.
I'm still a total noob out there but I get a bit better every day. I'm going to stick with it I think.
Also I love the scarfs!

The Scarfs are cool, also the streamers and the flare guns...however it would seem they are a bit jealous of the Canvas Knights people...because the Flare gun was something DM had shown ppl nearly a year ago.

Re: RoF: some quick thoughts
I downloaded the full/free demo and played with it a bit and all in all I think it's pretty damn good! I played Red Baron 20 years ago (never did get into RB3D) and haven't played a WW1 sim since so my opinion might be a bit jaded.
I like the graphics alot, the native 6dof is great, sounds are very immersive, I found the flight models to be quite good and I enjoyed getting to know it! I think I'm going to go ahead and by the Ultimate Upgrade for $60, seems reasonable to me, you get all planes (well all since Sept 2010 I think), missions, etc.
I want to mess with it a bit more, but so far I like it.
