They are the only US Air Force unit allowed to display the artwork on the nose of their aircraft. There is also a US Army unit that calls itself the Flying Tigers. They are the 8-229 Aviation Regiment.

As the article that Big_Fred posted states, the original AVG was rolled into the 23rd Fighter Group when the US entered WWII which is why they still display the nose art of the Flying Tigers. In fact, the tail code on their A-10 Warthogs is FT for Flying Tigers.
