So I have IL2 installed at work (really just so I can watch recordings and mess with skins...no joysticks here at the office!)...and got in the mood today to customize some of the aircraft I find myself flying on a regular basis. I figure hey - I have a number...why not decorate.
The first two (the Tomahawk and the P-40) should be close to 'exact' historical matches for the AVG aircraft flown of these types. The rest of them are just painting for kicks. A note about the seated Red Angel I am using...RT Smith was Flying Tiger #77 - and his aircraft used the seated Angel as a logo. You can see it before it was painted right here - http://www.tigersflying.com/77atkyadaw.html
Only thing I know that needs to be edited is "dulling out" the Angel on the F4U and the F4F - she is a bit bright.
** ONE THING TO NOTE - I did not fully skin these airframes...these were either templates or skins that were modified...all I did was modify certain things and add my markings. Also "Lawndart III" is a skin I created using a Mustang template...that is not a real WWII fighter, only my interpretation.
The AVG skins look great! I have always wanted us to have a full set of AVG skins, and Python only did a few before he left us- A20, P-40, couple others.

These are all in Photoshop - so they are templated and I could easily create 1st and 2nd Squadrons based off the 3rd I have. From all the historical photos I have seen (and might buy a book I found)...they were all very similar.
The Camoflague was different on many/most of them - that would be the time consuming change (and why I used an Olive color)
- The stripes are all in the same for each squad
- Each squad's patch is in the same spot (different for each squad...but all 1st are in the same spot, etc)
- The tiger varies slightly...but again, no hard thing.
- The numbers are fairly standardized and in the same place
So templating this out and kicking out a skin for each person would not be hard. I will have to read up on the 11th and figure out a good skin (unless we already have one).
Nice looking Skins you will find some of the camo skins are done in layers and when you number them or put a patch on them they will be reversed and you will see the items backwards you will have to find which layer lets you add items so they look correct you can find alot of good templets at flying legends that will let you make your skins I made a basic set for the AVG's that let me add names and squad id's to then if you are making a set and need anything PM me

Thanks Python - appreciate the information. I have been all over Flying Legends, Mission4Today, SimHQ and a few others looking at skins lately...a lot of good stuff out there. I definitely do not want to re-invent the wheel...so adding markings and customizing the aircraft a bit are definitely what I am looking toward.
Will holler at you if I come across any stumbling blocks.

Bitte!
Is there any way to grap the camo pattern and use one for all of the planes? That might save some time, but then again I don't know diddly about painting other than barns n big stuff like that with no lines to stay inside. Also since il-2 does the numbers in game you might be able to skip those for simplicity. Again, not knowing diddly.

Absolutely...what aircraft do we want to concentrate on first? I will find either a template with a camo pattern...or make one out of a well-skinned version.
The numbers are no big deal...will make bmp's with numbers (if wanted) and generic...
If you are asking me, I'd say the historical =AVG= planes (P-40, A-20, etc) and some german ones since we fly those in FS (JU-87 and -88, Mc200/202, Bf110, Me111 in the upcoming campaign).
