Hey now!

I got half a pack of smokes, a fresh pot of coffee and aaaaaaall day to type if I want!

Thx all and pecking away at the install progress as we speak.

Slight delay in getting fed up with, and so installing a second hard drive with WinXP Pro in a dual boot setup for all the software that Win7 Pro won't install or run (including itself).

Other than old stuff, Win7 has been awesome.

Hmmm....interesting...

Any advice then T4U or Decker if I can pick your brains further withut causing internal hemmorraging :P as I could not get either IL-2 1946 or Rise of Flight to correctly download and install, let alone ever run in Win7 Pro 64 bit without endless crashes, lock-ups, errors and this or that ending up corrupted including and mainly in Win7 itself?

Tried compatability modes, installing/running as an Administrator and anything else I could think of to no effect, including four reformats and re-installs.

Not even MS Office 2010 for my OS would work and only a trial offer of Filemaker Pro 11 made for my OS actually installed and ran consistently (that, and oddly enough two of MS's original Close Combat games built for Win95 which both installed straight from the auto-play/CD and ran like a charm).

(My system specs in brief)

- Intel(R) Core™ i7-950 3.06 GHz 8M Intel Smart Cache LGA1366

- Asus Ramage III Motherboard

- 6GB (2GBx3) DDR3/1800MHz Triple Channel Memory Module Kingston Hyper-X

- 640GB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD Single Hard Drive

- Killer™ 2100 - Gigabit Maximum Network Performance Online Gaming Network Interface Card

- ATI Radeon HD 5870 2GB GDDR5 16X PCIe Video Card Asus ROG Matrix Powered by ATI
MULTIVIEW: Xtreme Performance in SLI/CrossFireX Gaming Mode Supports Single Monitor

Are you the only user for the PC?

You might need to go to propeties and set the privilege level to run as administrator.

Oh! with Rise of flight, there are 3rd party applications that need to be installed. You'll need to go to the CD and double click each one to get them installed. after its installed you may still have a problem after it updates where the only thing you can get to click on is a recovery function. click it because it will update directx.

For Il-2 I don't know what problem you could have, it installed smooth on my PC.

S!~ Murph,

Check your RAM. It sounds like you have a bad stick. A copy of Microsoft's memory check program is attached to this post. Copy it to a disk, make sure your CMOS is set to boot to disk, reboot your computer, and then run the memory check from the disk. I had the same problem once and it turned out to be the RAM.

Good luck!

Ram could be the issue. I Have had multiple times that I bought Kingston ram sticks and brand new they did not work right and I had to send them to kingston and they sent me new ones. When I do all of my installs, I right clik on the exe. and run as admin. And on each desktop icon I right lick, go to properties and check the run as admin. Have you run the hash calc check to check the hash sums? you could have a currupt file in the UP2.01 downloads. Just some thoughts.

Thx again all...

I'm the only one who uses this puter as it's Mine! Mine! Mine!

Found I have (and figured out how to temp bypass) a CPU fan failure already, which was messing with system boot.

Found a missing/corupting hal.dll file error in both my Win7 and WinXP Pro installs.

Joystick dropped dead.

Testing of memory has shown no problems so far, but rechecking as I get the above and other issues resolved one at a time.

Also have a slight problem that if one simply rests their arm on top of or bumps the Tower just right, it powers itself down.

Tried downloading of the IL-2 Ultra201 update by Bit Torrent several times, and though it says complete, it keeps failing to download all the .cab files. Downloaded them individually then, but get a catastrophic crash error or the system crashes everytime I try to run the Ultra201 update exe.

It will run for about 30-60 seconds before crashing, and it does briefly install three shortcut files on my desktop, of which I have yet to be able to identify as they appear and then disapear as soon as the install crashes.

So for now I'll just hold my arms out while running around the yard making engine and machine gun noises :P

That could be caused by a grounding/short circuit if the mother board contacts the chassis.

Had a friend who had the same issue, and it turned out that when he installed his mother board he did not use the metal spacers provided to keep the mother board from touching the chassis.

Not doubting your computer prowess, but could this be the issue?

Just trying to help.
