Red Tails my review
Just got back from seeing the movie... 7.5/10 for me. I thought it was good not great, some of the dialog just killed me. I am glad that you get to see a little from the Germans perspective, though not much. The fight scenes were ok but I get more excitement from playing IL-2 than this movie. CGI just doesn't do it for me. When the 262's show up there were like 16 of them... I didn't think they had that many to throw at us at one time(I could be wrong). If I am not mistaken the 262's have Mk108's or 20 mm cannons and when the 51 gets hit from them it looks like its being shot at by early 7.7mm rounds. Oh ya I forgot, according to this movie you can sink a destroyer battleship by straffing in a P-40...
.... All in all, I got what I was expecting. I do not think I will be buying it when it comes out on DVD... Once you see it, you've seen it. But it is worth seeing in the theaters...

Yeah well that's George Lucas for ya. I am going to go see it, but I'm thinking it'll be a mix of historical accuracy and Raiders of the Lost Ark.Boomer wrote:...When the 262's show up there were like 16 of them... I watched it, and for the most part, I loved it! the only part that really bugs me is the maneuver where he does a loop over in the area of about 40 feet. The destroyer was destroyed by a P-51, pay attention!
heres the real inspiration for that scene

the cgi was really quite exceptional for me, and the scene where the mustangs broke cloud level is the 2nd sexiest thing I've ever seen, the other is inappropriate for a PG-13 site.

Actually I think the first time the 332nd encountered 262s there were like 21 total present................. they engaged like 14 of them coming in from behind and low to the bombers they were escorting...... if my memory is right they got over 3 of them that day.
Also I think they got quite a few patrol boats and such in the Med. Don't know about any destroyers tho.
