finding out what the bsod says helps to see what the actual error is that is causing the restart.
irq less than or equal to is I believe a driver related issue.
Finding out what type of sound card the pc has can point to a search for the fix.
there are patches out for TS3 and soundblaster (creative) cards.
or the drivers are possibly in need of updating .

oh i agree if all else fails reformat, but lord knows after you spend several hours reloading everything back again you sometimes wished you searched for a less painful cure.
