If it is an auto restart then the bsod message could tell you what is causing it.
To read that lil bugger you'll have to disable auto restart...
Then when the bsod pops up it won't go away till you hit your pc reset or shut it down via the power button ( holding it in till pc shuts off )
in XP to disable auto restart...

click start
right click "my computer"
left click properties
left click "advanced"tab
left click startup and recovery "settings" button
uncheck automatically restart in the system failure section
ok your way out.

There are many parts to a BSOD, but the most important is right at the top. The actual name of the error is presented in all caps with an underscore between each word. In some cases this will be all that’s needed to get to the root of the problem.

Right click My Computer, select properties, select hardware, select device manager. Then, scroll down to Sound, video and game controllers and double click it. There should be devices listed there, including your sound card.

Well I don't know what's in there that's going to help eliminate this problem, but when all else fails; reformat.
