Early 40's test bombs at bomb site in Apple Valley CA . Dropped from p40's out of edwards airforce base . A buddy of mine and i were able to locate and do a lil excavationand this is what we found . ENJOY !

Maybe it was from the Battle of Bakersfield, after the Japanese secret airfield was found there around Christmas 1941

I remember well back in 77 or 78 finding some mortar rounds in a neighbors trash pit ( Northern Indiana at the time). I was 11 or 12 at the time, I do not know if they were inert or active, but I do remember my WWII vet father, kicking my ever loving butt for having them in my room.

LOL Alpha , Funny thing is i dont know who was more excited me or my father . Did my research on these practice bombs . THey were full of concrete with a small amount of flash and black powder for visual cue . I have spent the last few day mapping where i have found direct impact , so far i have the SE quater mapped , and i have to say there were very accurate lol . Most of wht i find are completley compressed but i have been lucky enough to find a few very well intact . Im going to take ones that are in better shape down to the chino air museum for static display . There are also a pair of hellcats in rightwood mountains that had crashed , not much left up there but scraps but we are planning a recovery trip there soon , will be posting this as well .
