New computer build

Unread post by Redhornet »

I am in the process of researching components for a new system and need some serious opinions and suggestions. I want the system to be about $800 (or less) and I want it to totally kick some ass. Here is what I've come up with so far:

Basic system:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBund ... mbo.606615

One of these Vide0 Cards (I want Nvidia, I've had ATI for years and want to switch):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127510
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127512

DVD/CD drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827136216

Lastly will a sound card help out at all or is it's potential on improving system performance negligible? Sound Card:

That's all I can think of at the moment. Would love to hear from all the techie gearheads out there that have experience in these matters.

~S~ in advance for your assistance!

Look here. These guys have never steered me wrong. They are all over it, test the equipment and know there stuff. When I am planning a new build I always get a subscription and follow up with other reviews of same product.

Well do you want to over clock?

How long do you plan on owning the system?

how upgradeable do you want your system to be?

No overclocking for me, I want to have the system for about 5 years and I'd like the system to be as upgradeable as possible.

My main goal is to be able to run IL2 (with mods) with all the graphics settings on high and have fantastic frame rates, no hiccups, etc. etc. Second goal is to be able to run Rise of Flight and Cliffs of Dover with higher graphic settings without any issues. I figure if I could double the system requirements for those games, for a reasonable price, I should be good to go.

Aww no overclocking :(

Any ways here a build i built in a fly. If you count the mail inrebates its less then $800

And to my defence this is a 6 core, 8 Gig, SLI rig.

More graphics power then the GTX 580

8 Gigs of ram with room to expand on that

And if you ever change your mind a Mobo that can overclock.

As far as sound cards go its hard to justify them. Unless you use studio quality equipment of really really large speakers (Which probably have there own amps any ways) the on board sounds cards will do just fine.

Can't help much here. I went through Newegg but my rig ran me $1800+. They do have some good deals though. price shop till you get what you are looking for. Good luck on your new rig. Sure you will be happy.

I've been very happy with my i7, but I understand that these new AMDs really kick ass especially for the money. My kid built a PC about a year ago and he plays all the new games (not flight sims) and hasn't found anything yet that he can't run at the highest settings along with Vent, Fraps amd other programs running at the same time. Them SSD is a huge factor

What I7 do you have?

the AMD Phen II x6 is really just upto par with the i7 920-930

The new i7 2600K (Sandy bridge) is a monster.

i cant wait till AM3+ (Which im saving money for) Amd Bulldozer which according to rumore is better then the 980x...
