8th Air Force Museum

Unread post by Redhornet »

The 8th Air Force Museum in Savannah GA is restoring a B17. My father volunteers there and was able to get me access to get into and around the plane as well as taking me back to the workshop area. Below is a link to all the pix I took while I was there. It is a FANTASTIC museum and I highly recommend going if you live within a reasonable distance. The pix are in no particular order and focus mainly on the B17 and it's parts. Enjoy:

Very cool! I must go there someday. Thats an F model, right? Is it just for display or will it fly? And what is the engine from with the bent prop and where did it come from?

The B17 will be static display only, unfortunate, but there it is. The wrecked engine is a Daimler Benz 601 from a downed Me109. Really scary to look down the propeller hub bore for the 20/30mm cannon, definately wouldn't have wanted to be in front of that thing.
