Salutations to my Comrades in Arms

Unread post by Rebiv4 »

Greetings my old friends,

After about a year and a half away from any serious gameplay, I've decided the time is right in my life to start playing some IL-2 again and enjoy the presence and company of my good friends in the AVG! I've been back for a couple of days and have had the pleasure to play with some new(er) AVG members such as Viagra and he's quickly become a good friend and wingman. I've spoken to a few of the other guys, most notably Ramr....er...Razgriz, and it was definitely a good experience to see my old friend again. If it is okay with the staff officers and members I would love to come on Teamspeak and start flying alongside you all to get back into the game a little more and possibly rejoin the ranks of this illustrious unbeatable squadron in the future.

I wanted to also express my regret for leaving with little explanation even though it was a while ago. As some of you older squad vets know I have significant health issues that, suffice it to say, make it difficult to live a normal life, and therefore lead to unforeseen consequences. The biggest of these was the inability to hold a job due to missing work/hours, and I've now just got back to making money working for my dad's financial consulting service from home, same as him. I'm also finally going back to school, starting online then moving to a community college here in Northern Virginia and finally after 2 years hopefully a real University. During my time flying with you all before I was on a chaotic schedule and that lead to some odd behavior on my part, mostly due to stress mixed with high doses of painkillers, muscle relaxants, sedatives, and anti-spasmodic (which later I found were also anti-psychotics which would explain a lot). In light of this, I want to apologize for any ruffled feathers from back then, but as far as I can remember everything was pretty good between the squad and myself when I stopped playing. If not, I apologize for any issues.

You guys are and always have been like a second family and I always had a feeling in the back of my head like I was abandoning you guys when I took my leave. I should have kept in touch but at the time the future was uncertain at best. Anyways, I wish all of you happy hunting and I'll be around on teamspeak over the next few days!

With warm regards,

Rob Bickford

Unfortunately after playing a few days in IL-2 with some AVG I've decided to hold my application to rejoin. I played for an hour with Colslaw tonight with a few friends, Triggers, Viagra, and a new pilot Sabre and was having a great time with 6-7 people in the server. I shot down Colslaw in every engagement we had, and instead of being friendly and saying salute or gf like I do everytime, he insults me instead for shooting him down multiple times.

I've done nothing but greet him since coming back and the attitude shown to me tonight reminds me of one of the reasons I took a break from playing: the ego involved with some pilots around IL-2, most notably what I encountered tonight. I'd like to state also that I wasn't the only one who was disgusted at the comments made by Colslaw tonight: Viagra was in the server flying with me in our teamspeak and saw everything stated, as were 2 other friends new to the game. It would also be noteworthy that as soon as I left, he told Viagra in chat that "as long as I'm in =AVG= I won't be voting him back in". Wheres the provocation for that remark when we've never had issue of serious matter before tonight?

I just want to say that there was absolutely ZERO problem between the two of us, and in no way was there provocation for the statements by Colslaw tonight. I've had nothing but respect for him before today, and I can recall no events where such actions would be justified due to prior engagements. So, henceforth I'll be playing IL-2 with some friends in other servers but will not be attempting to retake my position among the majority of you who I would consider still to this day friends. I worked hard for my position in =AVG= and was hoping to at least have a chance to come back and play with friends, but from what I encountered tonight I have no desire to do so if it wouldn't be in the company of friendly, mature adults. If I want to play with immaturity around me I'll go load up Call of Duty.

Good luck to you all. I won't be coming back here to defend my post for it speaks for itself. I have no desire to be involved in a petty flame war nor would I expect any of you to be. I've nothing but respect for the hard work AVG puts in, an it is regretable I do not feel welcome among those I thought friends, who I took leave from on good terms for work and a break after 6 years. Colslaw's napping at me for no reason but being shot down a few times is not something I'd expect from an officer in AVG, and from the comments my friends who don't even know you made, you make AVG look bad, and it would not have been tolerated in the AVG I remember, veteran AVG officer or not.

S!~ Rebiv,

Having been around the block a time or two, I decided to investigate further before posting a reply. My initial thought when I saw your post above regarding Colslaw was that you were basing your opinion of the entire group on an incident involving a single member, which seems rather narrow minded. You were obviously enjoying the time you spent flying with HolyViagra. My next thought was that you could have come to me privately about this if you had any regard for the rest of the group, but I recall that there was a great deal of drama surrounding your membership the first time. My final thought initially was that you must be an incredible pilot since you have been away from the game for an extended period of time and you make no reference to shaking off the rust, only that you "shot down Colslaw in every engagement."

Let's suppose, for the sake of argument, that you had been shoulder shooting your teammates to get to Colslaw for most of the evening (which would explain how you "shot Colslaw down in every engagement" as you stated in your post). Then let's suppose, as Colslaw stated to me, that during his engagement with Orangejuicer, he asked that you allow them to finish their fight one on one. But, you decided to shoulder shoot Orangejuicer and flame Colslaw anyway. Then let's suppose that Colslaw congratulates you quite sarcastically on your "victory" (as it was obvious that Orangejuicer didn't need the help), to which you apparently replied something to the effect of "..now I remember why I left IL-2 and I will reconsider my application." That is apparently when Colslaw stated that if it were up to him, you wouldn't be accepted to the =AVG= anyway. Given the information provided by all parties concerned, this seems like the most likely scenario. As for withholding your application, Rebiv, I couldn't agree more. In light of the circumstances, I believe you're going to have a very difficult time gaining acceptance.

For those of you reading along who may be thinking that I am simply taking the side of the member, Colslaw doesn't get a free pass here. However, if Colslaw is guilty of anything, it is publicly reacting to what he feels is an injustice which is in violation of section #2 of the =AVG= Code of Conduct. It will be up to the Group Command Staff to decide what will be done about it.
