From January to June 2010, Major Derring served in Kuban in the 1942 Multi-Sector Campaign, flying a total of 24 sorties. Of the 79 participants in the sector, Major Derring tied for 1st overall in total number of sorties flown for the campaign.

Major Derring is hereby awarded the Commendation Medal. Major Derring's actions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the US Army Air Corps. They reflect well upon him, his unit, and the =AVG=.
