While serving with the =AVG= USL Team, Lt. Colonel Space distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism and determination. Lt. Colonel Space trained for a month before week 3 of the tournament in order to complete his objective, which was to sink the carrier. And, on on 7 March 2010, with the help on his team, Lt. Colonel Space became the only pilot in the entire United Squadrons League to accomplish this feat. In his report, Lt. Colonel Warren wrote;

"I want to recognize Lt. Colonel Space for his run on the Carrier south of Malta in Week 3. We were the only squadron in the entire league that sank the carrier. While it was a group effort, Space had trained on the attack run tirelessly and with that he was able to do what hundreds of others couldn't." - Lt. Colonel Warren

Lt. Colonel Space is awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States. Lt. Colonel Space brought renown to the =AVG= and contributed to the success of the mission. His actions reflect well upon him, and his teammates, and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Army Air Corps and of the =AVG=.

That was a very notable mission but the most extraordinary service was your dedication in representing the =AVG= while in the USL. These types of missions and open pit especially, aren’t your cup of tea but you were present for every match……even when it meant waking up at 6am your time for a match. That alone deserves special merit!! I cannot express enough thanks for this simple feat.

Hopefully these awards will be at least a small token of the great appreciation of this squadron that you have honored. A true hero of the squadron, wear the American Volunteer Group uniform proudly, it is well deserved!!!

Space and Smokin were mirror members of our USL team. Nothing more or less could be said about each pilot. Without you gentlemen, we would have ended up on the bottom.

KUDOS and CONGRAULATIONS

Wow. I don't know what to say guys; I was just a cog in the AVG machine. Thank you all, and I will strive to continue to be worthy of such recognition.

Nice job space! I'll always remember that run, I just about jumped out of my seat when I heard you say you sunk that thing. It was impressive that even with a damaged bomber (no elevators), you still managed to get your bombs on target at such a critical game time moment. Kudos.
