Extremely Low Frame Rates

Unread post by Redhornet »

First off here are my computer specs for reference:
Intel Pentium 4 2.1 ghz
2.5 gig Ram
ATI Radeon 9000 (AGP port)
70 gig hard drive
I have high speed DSL (average of 2.55 Mbps down and 0.43 Mbps up)

In USL I'm having frame rates of no higher than 9 to 11fps, usually hovering around 5fps, definately not playable. I figured it might be Team Speak Overlay so I turned it off, didn't help. I thought reducing my graphic settings to the lowest would solve the problem, it didn't. I figured well I'll just go to Skies of Valor and just get some practice in, when to my dismay I see that my frame rates in Valor are just as low as in USL. I was stunned. I have always in the past had very good frame rates in all the Valor maps except Norwegian Wood. I decided to try something.

I started my 4.09m vanilla install of IL2, went to Valor and, boom, frame rates were back to normal, around 25 to 30fps, sometimes a bit lower, but nothing below 20 and still very playable. No issues, even on a full server. I also didn't have any problems whatsoever with the UP2.0m (that's M). Go back to UP2.0n (that's N) and frame rates plummet to unplayable levels, no matter the server I go to.

So, bottom line for me is that there is obviously something in UP2.0n (N) that my computer cannot handle graphics wise. Have no idea what it would be and honestly I'm not entirely sure I want to spend hours trying to find the source. Aside from buying a new computer, which I can't do right now, I don't know how to solve the issue. If all servers are going to require using UP2.0n, well I think that will make it impossible for me to play.

If there are any suggestions and advice that anyone has, I'm all ears and I'm willing to experiment and tweak till the cows come home.

=S= Redhornet!

Now it's strange that you didn't experience this back on the 2.0m patch because I had the problem until I enabled Stocked clouds.
For some stupid reason, the UP thought their default clouds should be Josse's Clouds which for a lot of people caused their frames to plummet. So the JSGME Mod has a switcher to enable the stocked clouds. However you cannot use Stocked Clouds in the USL because it is believed to be already included in the USL Addons. BS! Those clouds look soft but they're not the true Stocked Cloudds, as it still has the effects of Josse's Clouds. Because I too get low frames playing in the USL server. The best thing I could do was turn Settings all the way down.

Though We need to complain about the clouds in the USL Addons, they're still causing low frames.

But if you haven't tried stocked clouds give that a shot, also throw on effects low, Apparently it somewhat tones down whatever UP had toned up on default. There' another possible mod. Safe dll's I heard was another way to tone down settings and possibly get your frames back up.

but the USL Addons , that does not have the True Stocked clouds, still causes frame reduction.

S! AVG,

There have been numerous problems and ideas out there with the USL addons and UP2.0n.

First there was an issue with the download of the 2.0n having corrupted files. So I'd try another mirror for your download on it.

Also Raz, I noticed on your screen shot that you have "57 mods found" on your mod switcher. Almost everyone here at [RS] has 55, not sure what that's about. Hopefully you don't as well have an issue with a corrupted file.

Lastly there is some setting advice from HaDeS. He's the builder of UP2.0. There are some good tweaks in this, just scroll down for ATI cards.

I truly hope some of this helps, good luck with getting this fixed.

There was another release of the 2.0n Patch that came out after the first release was known to have some bugs in or some corrupted files, but I'm sure you squadron mate caught that I'm assuming.
Tiger wrote:S!~ All,

Here is a link to the correct UP2.0nPatch.exe Patch. If you downloaded and installed the one that was posted at the USL site called UP20nPatch.exe you need to download the CORRECT patch and install it over the other one. I had updated my game and the Wings~of~War server with the wrong version, which has now been corrected.

NOTE: Use Mirror #2 or #3 for the fastest download.

That's strange, I don't want to say it I really don't but did you guys download the so called "fixed" update for the UP 2.0n patch?

Then again, there maybe some mods that I've added, I'm really not sure why that is so.
But definately the USL stocked clouds are not the true mods, they kill my frames just as well as Redhornet's and anyone else that doesn't have a "SUPER TAstic" computer.
