If you're a smoker you're going to want to read this...
S!~ All,
I just found out today what they are doing to our cigarettes to make them "Fire Safe" and you are not going to believe this. Those "speed bumps" are actually Ethyl Vinyl Acetate (EVA), which is plastic! It seems that the FDA has expanded their definition of "paper" to include EVA so that it can be added to cigarettes to make them self-extinguishing. Vinyl will extinguish itself when burned, so I see why it was used, except for the fact that it is being ingested by human beings. Advocates would have you believe that the substance is "not much more dangerous than tobacco" but that is complete bullshit.
Let me tell you how serious I feel about this issue; I have been a smoker for over three decades, but now that I have learned what they are putting in our cigarettes to make them "Fire Safe" I'm done. Sure, I'll have a cigar once in a while, since I enjoy my tobacco, but now that I know they are putting EVA in our cigarettes I'll never smoke one again.

They have been killing us slowly for years. The addition of EVA will accelerate the process quite a bit. I hear that the military is considering a ban on smoking for all military members. It seems that they will try to protect their investment in human resources. So, if the military knows this will be a serious health issue, why would our government look the other way?Trouble4u wrote:They were already killing you before, whats a little plastic?

Nah, it was batted around for a bit, but there was soo much outcry that they decided to let the boys have a smoke.

With all of the carcinogens that I work with on aircraft, I could care less about inhaling plastic.
I've had lubricant get blown-back into my eyes last week and my right eye is still red as well.
And these guys don't know what OSHA is about either.

I thought Cigarettes, cigars etc have been put under the control of the FDA now. I could be wrong but I don't think the FDA would allow this.

http://hubpages.com/hub/Fire-Safe-CigarettesSo, these new cigarettes, are they safe for the body?
"The New York State Department of Health advised that cigarettes complying with the fire safety standards set forth in the regulation were not expected to significantly change the inherently high risks associated with cigarette smoking."
According to the reports, "Significantly" is the key word. What is "significantly" in the scheme of the massively large number of people that develop health problems from cigarettes. Why is ANY chemical being added to cigarettes that may pose ANY kind of threat to a persons health?
